Located on the bustling commerical strip of Star Avenue in Hangzhou’s Binjiang District, Hangzhou Zhongshuge appears to defy the laws of physics. The 10,764-square-foot bookstore is a true testament to the power of mirrors, which line the ceiling and “expand” the room and its bookshelves. Created by XL-MUSE, Hangzhou Zhongshuge is made of three rooms each with a distinct feel, but all equally surreal. “[The bookstore] blends the definitions of books into every space by upholding the usual respect for books and knowledge, and infuses the minds of readers with the sacred books by way of design. In today’s distracting and harassing context, you still can find a place to rest your soul,” says XL-MUSE design director Li Xiang. Tour the mind-bending bookstore below. Learn more about it here.
