Last summer, Nintendo did something very smart and decided they were making a mini NES.
Then, they did something very stupid and completely ignored Economics 101, only making enough units to meet the lowest point of the demand curve before discontinuing the product.
In order to make up for that gaffe, Nintendo has already announced its SNES reboot won’t have the same supply issues, and today they gave us a bit of information on the demand side of things — specifically when you’ll be able to demand yours.
According to a post on the Nintendo Facebook page, the Super NES Classic Edition system “will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month” and “a significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day” on September 29th.
Following the pre-order period and initial delivery in September, more of the $80 Super NES Classics will be released throughout the balance of the calendar year. More specifics aren’t available, but to stay completely up to date we’d suggest following Nintendo on Facebook.
If you’re on the fence, here’s a list of games that will be included with the console: Contra III: The Alien Wars, Donkey Kong Country, EarthBound, Final Fantasy III, F-ZERO, Kirby Super Star, Kirby’s Dream Course, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mega Man X, Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Star Fox 2, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out!!.
