At the age of one, Maori Yacht founder Oberdan Chimenti went out on the sea for the first time.
At 16, he took a job as a sailor on a private yacht and at the ripe-old age of just 21 he took over the captaincy of a 24-meter sailing yacht, in which he proceeded to sail all over the Mediterranean.
Now 48, Chimenti has just added another line to his lengthy CV in the form of the new Maori 54.
With a deckhouse featureing a convertible top that pays homage to the drop-tops found on the Italian sports cars that populate Chimenti’s homeland, the new 54-foot yacht can be equipped with a pair of propeller engines packing either 650, 725 or 800 water ponies apiece.
Designed with versatility and openness in mind, the 54 is large enough to serve as a day cruiser for up to 12 people, but still small enough to serve as a shuttle boat between larger vessels. And, if an overnight trip is required, there are convertible sleeping berths below deck if needed.
Already producing anywhere from 30 to 79-foot models, Maori’s introduction of the 54 comes on the rudders of the boatbuilder announcing they’ll also be producing a 62-foot yacht.
Add it to Chimenti’s resumé. To see the drop-top in action, take a gander at the video below.
