Some mansions are inexorably associated with the people who have called them home, whether briefly or for years at a time. In the case of one home in Thousand Oaks, California, its celebrity history is a bit more complicated. It’s currently on the market for $22.9 million. The seller? Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and his family. It’s not all that surprising to hear that one of the all-time greats of a sport lives in a massive, luxurious space like this one. What’s a little more surprising is Gretzky owned the house not once, but twice.

The house was designed by architect Richard Landry, working with Wayne and Janet Gretzky, and was built in 2002. Five years later, the family sold it — with the buyer being none other than onetime baseball star Lenny Dykstra.
Under Dykstra’s ownership, the property fell into disrepair and was eventually sold — another unsettling moment in a series of disquieting events in the former ballplayer’s life.
In the end, the house was repurchased by the Gretskys, who renovated it and are now putting it back on the market. The house encompasses over 13,000 square feet, as well as a pair of guesthouses and a detached garage capable of holding four cars. The house also includes a tennis court and a swimming pool — but, unfortunately, no hockey rink.
