The question of who will be the next host of Jeopardy! is one that’s been hotly debated over the last few months, as guest hosts have appeared on the show, giving viewers a sense of what the post-Alex Trebek future of the show will be like. The guest hosts so far have been a wide-ranging group, including Katie Couric, Dr. Oz and Ken Jennings. There’s also a vocal contingent making the argument that LeVar Burton should be the game show’s next host — which is a pretty compelling idea. (He’s also a onetime Celebrity Jeopardy! winner.)
The latest big name announced for guest host duties comes from the world of sports broadcasting. If you’ve ever wanted to see Joe Buck try his hand at asking for answers in the form of a question, well, your time is now.
The New York Post reports that Buck is slated to host several episodes of the lauded game show. Those episodes are set to air later this year, in the summer. “The tryout will not impact Buck’s schedule as the voice of MLB and the NFL on Fox,” writes the Post‘s Andrew Marchand.
Buck is already a ubiquitous presence in the world of sports broadcasting; making a foray into the world of Jeopardy! would certainly be a change of pace for him. Still, his long career gives him plenty of experience in front of the camera and a relaxed onscreen presence, both essential qualities for whomever ends up taking over permanent duties there.
