Male makeup enthusiasts will now have more high-end products to choose from thanks to Chanel’s latest additions to its makeup for men line, Boy de Chanel. The brand is adding new products including nail polish, eyeliner, and concealer to the line, launched in 2018 as a three-piece collection featuring a tinted fluid, eyebrow pencil, and moisturizing lip balm.
The new Boy de Chanel products introduce a dual gel moisturizer/after-shave cream, a Multi-Effect Eye Pencil that does double-duty as both an eyeliner and eyeshadow, and matte nail polish available in two neutral shades, beige and black. The new collection also includes a concealer, however, as Hypebeast noted, the limited three-shade offering ranging from light to medium may raise eyebrows at a time when many consumers are clamoring for cosmetics companies to represent more diverse skin tones.
Chanel is among a number of brands contributing to a growing trend toward gender inclusivity in the cosmetics industry with men’s makeup lines. Other notable brands in the men’s makeup space include Tom Ford, War Paint, Recipe For Men, Benny Hancock, and Shakeup Cosmetics, and earlier this summer the men’s makeup trend made it to drugstores when CVS launched male makeup brand Stryx in 2,000 of its stores.
