Tke Golden State Warriors won Game 5 of the NBA Finals in Toronto to stave off elimination, but they lost Kevin Durant to an injury, again.
Playing for the first time in almost a month after sitting out with an injured calf, Durant only lasted until the second quarter before exiting with an Achilles injury and did not return to the game. He will get an MRI today.
With Durant out, Splash Brothers Steph Curry and Klay Thompson led the team with Curry scoring 31 points and Thompson adding 26 for Golden State.

It was barely enough as the Warriors were barely able to escape with a 106-105 after a last-second shot by Raptors guard Kyle Lowry was off the mark thanks to a block from Draymond Green.

Following the game, Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers broke down while giving a press conference about Durant’s status. Myers took the blame for the injury, which may indicate Durant wasn’t just dealing with a sore calf entering play on Monday night and there were internal concerns about his Achilles as well. “If you have to, you can blame me,” he said.

Another possibility is this was a tactic for Myers to attempt to convince Durant to stay in free agency by showing just how much the team values and cares for him. Or, it’s possible he just got really emotional and cried while talking about a superstar’s leg injury.
Regardless, Game 6 is Thursday night and it seems likely Durant will not be playing in it.
