Tony Romo was flying high after chipping in from 66 feet for eagle on the seventh hole during the first round of the Byron Nelson in Dallas, but the former Cowboys quarterback has crashed back to earth since then.

Romo, who some brave souls bet on to win the tournament even though Vegas oddsmakers had him pegged at 10,000-1, posted his best score ever in the five PGA Tour rounds he’s played but was still five over par when all was said and done yesterday.
With his 5-over 76 on Thursday, Romo tied for 148th (better than only four golfers in the field). That mark put him 13 strokes behind leader Denny McCarthy entering play on Friday and in serious danger of missing the cut.
Regardless of if he makes the cut and gets to keep playing over the final two days of the tournament, Romo has had the crowd behind him at his home club in Dallas.
The man of the hour…

As of this writing, the 39-year-old has shot even through Round 2 which still puts him at +5 for the tournament. He is tied for 145th place.
