With one Flacco seemingly on his way out of the NFL after a successful career that saw him quarterback a team to a Super Bowl during one of the most impressive postseason runs in league history, another Flacco may be entering the league in his place.
Tom Flacco, the younger brother of 35-year-old former Ravens and Broncos QB Joe Flacco, is a borderline prospect out of Towson. The biggest reason why Tom’s not a lock to be drafted in April is that he’s so little: about 200 pounds and 6-1.
Much more mobile than his older brother (1,406 rushing yards in his college career), 25-year-old Tom passed for 6,082 yards and 50 touchdowns in 24 games at Towson but wasn’t invited to the NFL combine.
Regardless, the former Tiger is confident he can exceed at the next level the same way his brother did.
“People ask me what I will do next if I don’t make it,” Tom told ESPN. “I’m not thinking about if it doesn’t work out. I am focused on one thing and one thing only, that’s making it in the NFL. I’m too young and this is something that I’ve wanted my whole life, so I’m going to put everything into it.”
Despite the younger Flacco’s confidence and pedigree, ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. doesn’t anticipate he’ll be among the 255 players selected in this year’s draft. “I’d say he would have to battle his way into a camp as a priority undrafted free agent and see what happens,” Kiper said.
If Tom does make it to the NFL, he and Joe will become the 12th pair of quarterback siblings in league history.
