Marshawn Lynch, who last played NFL football for the Oakland Raiders in 2018, will meet with the Seahawks in Seattle on Monday to discuss a possible reunion with the team.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Lynch and the team “have always maintained a great relationship” even though he left Seattle after the 2015 season before returning to league with Oakland in 2017.
The Seahawks are in dire need of help at running back after losing starter Chris Carson (hip) and backups Rashaad Penny (ACL) and C.J. Prosise (arm) to season-ending injuries. As of now, rookie Travis Homer is the only healthy running back on Seattle’s roster. He had five rushes for 16 yards during the Seahawks’ Week 16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Lynch, 33, spent the heyday of his career in Seattle and won a Super Bowl with the team in 2013. He is the fourth-leading rusher in team history with 6,347 yards and second in rushing touchdowns with 57. In six games for the Raiders last year, Lynch totaled a respectable 376 yards with three touchdowns before landing on injured reserve thanks to a groin injury.
In addition to Lynch, free agent C.J. Anderson has also been linked to the running-back-needy Seahawks, as has former Seattle rusher Robert Turbin.
Whether it’s with Lynch, Anderson, Turbin or someone else, the Seahawks may add multiples backs to their roster prior to Sunday night’s showdown with the San Francisco 49ers.
