In an effort to win a Super Bowl and redeem his image, one of football’s biggest stars is headed to Hollywood to become a member of the supporting cast on what is shaping up to be an NFL superteam.
Cut by the Browns after a lackluster season and a lackluster tenure in Cleveland as a whole, Odell Beckham Jr. is heading to Los Angeles to play for the Rams as part of a stacked receiving corps that already includes Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and Van Jefferson as well as pass-catching tight end Tyler Higbee.
The Rams, who cut veteran wide receiver DeSean Jackson after the trading deadline last week, don’t really need Beckham. But, the Rams also didn’t really need star linebacker Von Miller either yet still surrendered LA’s second- and third-round picks in the 2022 draft for the perennial Pro Bowler as part of the team’s all-in push for a Super Bowl. (Jackson signed with the Las Vegas Raiders this week.)
The contract Beckham signed with the Rams is a one-year deal with incentives, though the financial terms were not disclosed.
In his eight NFL seasons (three with Cleveland and five with the New York Giants), the former 2014 first-round pick has amassed 504 receptions for 7,062 yards and 51 touchdowns in 88 career games. Those numbers may not reflect the player Beckham is now as he has 17 catches for 232 yards and zero touchdowns in six games this season.
By agreeing to terms today, the three-time Pro Bowl selection will be eligible to take the field when the Rams (7-2) play the San Francisco 49ers (3-5) this week on Monday Night Football. Whether Beckham will actually suit up for LA on Monday remains to be seen.
