During the appeal of his indefinite suspension from the NFL following the ugly brawl a week ago on Thursday Night Football, Myles Garrett said quarterback Mason Rudolph caused the incident by directing a racial slur at him.

According to ESPN, Garrett did tell some members of the Browns organization he planned “to assert some sensitive information” as part of his appeal.

Though no further details about the allegation were given, presumably Rudolph would have used the slur while Garrett was on top of him following a hit. Whatever happened, Garrett took exception with it and ripped off the 24-year-old QB’s helmet and struck him in the head with it once they were both off of the ground. Some people think it should end his season. Maximiliano Bretos tweeted:

Rudolph told reporters he didn’t say anything to provoke Garrett and the Steelers also issued a statement denying the slur accusation.

“Mason vehemently denies the report of being accused of using a racial slur during the incident Thursday night in Cleveland,” Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said. “He will not discuss this accusation any further and his focus remains on preparation for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.”

The NFL also said it found “no evidence” Rudolph used a slur.

Garrett’s claim was not enough to sway the NFL’s original discipline as his indefinite suspension was upheld. He can apply for reinstatement at season’s end and will likely be back on the field for the Cleveland Browns for Week 1 next season.
