In the midst of the pandemic, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield have found the time to get back in the ring to train on their own. Now, to help raise money for charity, they may actually step into the ring together.
Tyson, 53, and Holyfield, 57, have already fought each other twice, with the older fighter winning both times (despite losing part of his ear during the second fight).
The boxing legends may step into the ring for the third time, even though Tyson hasn’t fought professionally since 2005 and Holyfield last fought in 2011.
“I would do that. Yes, I want to fight Mike Tyson,” Holyfield told The Sun. “I can definitely handle him. But Mike would have to want to do it as well. I can still shoot the jab, I can still shoot the shots, but not like a killing thing, Mike is looking sharp, but I’m in very good condition and shape physically and mentally. And if the money is right, too, then let’s get it on. Since we have both announced a comeback, a fight between me and Mike would definitely be the fight people want to see.”
Those comments are similar to remarks Holyfield made to TMZ earlier this month.
Though he hasn’t specifically mentioned Holyfield, Tyson said recently that the “gods of war” have ignited his ego and want him to go to war again.
“Imagine I went out there and fought,” the former champ said, “I could help all these people and animals we’re talking about. That’s really what it’s about.”
No matter what the fighters want, it seems unlikely a gaming commissioner would actually sign off on them stepping into the ring.
