Though he’s only 33, LeBron James has moved into fifth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, surpassing Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain.

The King passed the Big Dipper with a three-point play in the fourth quarter against the Portland Trail Blazers and the Lakers went on to win 126-117 on Wednesday night.

James ended the night with 44 points – 28 of which came in the second half – and also had 10 rebounds and nine assists for LA. The three-time NBA champ finished his evening with 31,425 all-time points, six ahead of Chamberlain’s 31,419 points.

“When I’m able to do what I love to do, and do it at this level – and even being mentioned with the greats that have ever played this game – it just always brings me back to my hometown of Akron,” James said after the game. “And knowing where I come from, knowing how hard it was to get to this point – it’s just never being in satisfied mode. I give it all to the man above for giving me God-given abilities. I’m taking full advantage of ’em. And then my coaching staff and my teammates throughout these 16 years so far, have gotten me to this point.”

Next up on the scoring list at No. 4 is Michael Jordan (32,292 points) followed by Kobe Bryant (33,643 points), Karl Malone (36,928 points), and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points).

If James keeps scoring at his current average (26.4 points), he could pass Jordan as soon as late January.
