After missing all of last season following an ACL tear in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, star Golden State shooting guard Klay Thompson will miss his second straight season for the Warriors with a torn Achilles.

Thompson, 30, suffered the injury to his right leg injury during a workout on Wednesday in Southern California with other NBA players. The tear in his right Achilles, the opposite leg of where he had the ACL tear, was confirmed by an MRI on Thursday morning.

“It’s one of those deals where you don’t really know until you know,” Golden State general manager Bob Myers said during a post-draft conference call with reporters on Wednesday night. “You can be hopeful, you can be concerned. I’m probably all those combined, and until we know more tomorrow, I’ll just hope for good news.”

Unfortunately, it is horrible news for the team and Thompson, but he has been told to expect to make a full recovery, a source told ESPN.

Thompson’s injury takes somewhat of the shine off of the Warriors selecting center James Wiseman (second overall) and guards Nico Mannion (48th overall) and Justinian Jessup (51st overall) in Wednesday’s draft.

Wiseman, 19, averaged 19.7 points on 76.9 percent shooting, 10.7 rebounds and three blocks in 23 minutes in three games during his lone season at the University of Memphis.
