How bad have things gotten for Russell Wilson and the Broncos ahead of Denver taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday morning? Bad enough that the embattled quarterback, who is expected to play after missing last Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets with a hamstring injury, is getting trolled by opposing players — who don’t even play for the Jags.
Wilson, who has thrown five touchdown passes in his six starts to go with three interceptions while quarterbacking an offense that is last in the NFL in scoring (14.3 points per game) and red zone offense, was reportedly a bigger pain in the ass on the flight Denver to London than he has been on the field this season for the 2-5 Broncos.
And, upon arrival across the pond, the 33-year-old confirmed his behavior. “I was doing treatment on the plane, everybody else was knocked out and I was walking up and down the aisles, high knees, working on my legs, making sure I was ready to rock,” Wilson said.
Wilson’s teammates weren’t the only ones rolling their eyes at his gym-class-hero antics as Baltimore kicker Justin Tucker, who has scored more points with his foot this season than the Broncos’ $245 million man has with his arm, expertly mocked Denver’s quarterback without mentioning his name as the Ravens flew home from beating the Buccaneers 27-22 in Tampa Bay on Thursday Night Football.
In addition to mocking Wilson doing high knees down the aisles, Tucker also threw in a deeper dig at the former Seahawk by referencing the douche-chill-inducing “Mr. Unlimited” character he invented for himself that no one asked for or was entertained by during his days in Seattle. See here:
It’s been a rough stretch for Wilson since his trade from Seattle to Denver and it could get rougher if the Broncos lose to the Jaguars to drop to 2-6 on the season entering their bye week. Should the team lose to Jacksonville, there’s certainly a possibility that first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett could be relieved of his duties just halfway into his debut season running the show in Denver. While Denver general manager George Paton might secretly rather get rid of Wilson, who has completed just 58.6% of his passes for 1,442 yards this season, he’s not going anywhere due to his contract.
Where Wilson will be going following Sunday’s game is back to Denver — likely doing high knees if the Broncos win.
