Bill Belichick, the head coach of the New England Patriots, gave the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, his first job. Belichick got Schwartz a job as a personnel scout with the Browns. However, the two men never coached together because Schwartz did not become an NFL coach until the Browns fired Belichick and moved to Baltimore. But Belichick’s beliefs shaped Schwartz’s. So in a roundabout way, Belichick influence helped shape the defense that Belichick himself is facing this weekend in Super Bowl LII. The two coaches are more alike than you may think, and they have both accomplished one major thing: make the game seem simple to the players, but complicated to the opponents. Now both teams walk on to the field this Sunday believing their coach has all the answers. Who will come out on top?
