According to an investigation by Sports Illustrated, at least four former Carolina Panthers employees have received “significant” monetary settlements because of inappropriate workplace comments and conduct by owner Jerry Richardson. The misconduct includes sexually suggestive language and behavior, as well as at least one occasion of directing a racial slur at an African-American Panthers scout. SI reports that some treated Richardson’s behavior as “something of a running office joke,” but others say it “disturbing.” The parties signed a non-disclosure agreement during the settlements. The team declined to comment to SI but said that they had started an internal investigation into allegations of workplace misconduct by Richardson, and SI reports the NFL has taken over the investigation. After SI dropped their report about Richardson, the owner announced his plans to sell the franchise that he founded. He did not address the accusations in his statement, according to Washington Post.
