Following a nationally televised game that saw the Dallas Cowboys make several errors which could be traced back to being unprepared or poor coaching, franchise owner Jerry Jones has put coach Jason Garrett and his staff on alert heading into another national TV game against the Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving.
Though Dallas is currently leading the NFC East, the Cowboys are just 6-5 on the season and could easily lose the top seed — and fall out of the playoffs in the process.
Losers of two out of three and five of their last eight games, Dallas will have their hands full on Thanksgiving against an 8-3 Bills team that’s won two in a row.
Recognizing the spot his team is in both in the short and long-term, Jones put the pressure on Garrett, who is coaching in the final year of his contract, to get a win.
“The bottom line is we get graded,” Jones said on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. “I’m in business. I don’t have to win the Super Bowl in business every year. I can come in sixth and have a hell of a year. But in this business, you’ve got to come in first. You’ve got to come in first. So fundamentally, you’ve asked for something that’s a very narrow window to begin with. I want Jason to get it done.”
In 10 seasons as the head coach in Dallas, Garrett has won 83 of 147 regular-season games and won the NFC East crown three times. Voted Coach of the Year in 2016, Garrett has never guided the Cowboys further than the second round of the playoffs.
Dallas is a seven-point favorite at home against the Bills this afternoon.
