With the Kansas City Chiefs sitting at 3-3 in a season where they are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl, it is fair to say that Patrick Mahomes has been having his struggles on the field with his pro team.

Through no fault of his own, the 26-year-old is also having his struggles off the field thanks to some of the things the members of his personal team, specifically his fiancée and brother, are doing.

After attracting unwanted attention when a video of him dumping water on rowdy Ravens fans during the Chiefs’ 36-35 loss in Baltimore last month went viral, Jackson Mahomes made his brother look bad again yesterday.

While in attendance at FedEx Field in Washington to watch his brother play, Jackson shot a TikTok video of himself dancing on an on-field memorial logo honoring late NFL star Sean Taylor which was unveiled on Sunday. Taylor played for Washington and was shot and killed in November 2007 during a robbery attempt at his Florida home.

After the majority of the internet took exception with Jackson — who is a constant presence at his brother’s games and has nearly one million TikTok followers — dancing on Taylor’s memorial, he issued an apology.

“I want to sincerely apologize for accidentally being on the Sean Taylor #21 at FedEx Field,” Jackson wrote on Twitter. “We were directed to stand in that area and I meant absolutely no disrespect to him or his family.”

Though photos show Jackson and others standing in the area without being asked to move by security, it does seem a little bit unbelievable that he would have no idea about the significance of dancing on a public memorial to a popular player who was tragically murdered at the age of 24.

Brittany Matthews, Patrick’s fiancée who was also involved in the water-throwing incident last month, was also at yesterday’s game in Washington (and on Taylor’s star) as well as tweeting about it …

As was the mother of the Mahomes brothers …

It’s great that Patrick’s family is so supportive of his NFL career, but in the interests of having it continue with minimal distractions, it might be wise for Jackson to stay home from games for a couple of weeks and for Brittany, and maybe even Randi, to stay off Twitter for a bit, if for no other reason than to let this off-field storyline end temporarily. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it probably won’t be going away permanently.
