Urban Meyer has signed a contract with Fox to lead a college football pre-game show featuring an All-Star roster of former NCAA players.
The former Ohio State head coach will head up a crew on a yet-to-be-named show which will also feature ex-USC standout Reggie Bush, former Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart, and ex-Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn. Rob Stone will host the show starting in the fall.
“With a head coach that won three national titles in 10 years, two of the most successful college quarterbacks in recent memory and one of the sport’s most electric running backs, our new college football pregame show has the game covered from all angles,” said FOX Sports National Networks president Mark Silverman. “We think that this entire lineup will educate and entertain viewers with the unique FOX attitude that viewers are familiar with.”
With Meyer in the fold as an analyst, Fox is hopeful its revamped pre-game show will be able to compete with ESPN’s popular College GameDay.
According to The New York Post, Fox feels it has signed, as one source put it, a “Mount Rushmore of college football over the last 15 years.”
Meyer, 54, retired from coaching following Ohio State’s 28-23 Rose Bowl win over Washington.
A three-time national champion coach with the Buckeyes and Florida Gators, Meyer has said in the past he had no interested in heading up an NFL team because he couldn’t stand the prospect of losing.
“I could never work at a place … I see some of these guys’ records because the NFL is so even,” Meyer previously said. “Some of these guys, their record is 74-58. I could never do that.”
