During the final edition of the Manning brothers’ “MegaCast” on Monday Night Football until Week 7, Eli Manning showed his true colors: Big Blue.
With the Eagles getting destroyed by the Dallas Cowboys and the game well out of reach in the fourth quarter, former Philadelphia defensive end Chris Long joined the broadcast and the conversation eventually turned to the reaction Eli got from Philadelphia fans during his career while playing quarterback for the New York Giants.
“You go to Philly, and you’re getting the double bird right away from a 9-year-old kid,” he said, while flipping off the camera with his middle finger on both hands. “I would give the bird — I don’t know, can we do that? I’m sure we can blur that out, right?”
Manning must have taken some flak from higher-ups at ESPN for the non-FCC-approved gesture and gave a predictably half-hearted apology later on in the broadcast following a commercial break.
“Sorry. I guess that’s frowned upon,” Eli said. “Sorry if I offended anybody.”
It was a funny moment during what turned into somewhat of a dull game and it is too bad that Eli was forced to ruin it with an apology he clearly didn’t mean. However, for the third straight week, the so-called “ManningCast” on Monday night has led to some next-day buzz on Tuesday morning. It’ll be interesting to see what the ratings were like for Week 3 of the MNF broadcast, but it appears that ESPN has a hit on its hands.
