LA's David Price to Give Dodgers' Minor Leaguers $1,000 Each

In the wake of hundreds of cuts being made on Thursday in baseball’s minor leagues with hundreds more expected to follow, LA ace David Price is doing something to help players in the Dodgers’ system.

To help alleviate the pain from the cuts, which are expected to reach the thousands by the time all is said and done, Price reportedly is going to give $1,000 to each minor leaguer that is not on the team’s 40-man roster.

The Dodgers have been paying players in the minors $400 a week, and the team announced it would continue to pay that stipend to players through June 31.

One of Price’s former managers in Boston, ex-Sox skipper Alex Cora, commended his the ace in a Friday morning tweet.

It’s a nice gesture by Price, who signed a seven-year contract worth $217 million in 2016 that is fully guaranteed, but he can certainly afford it. Price was set to earn $32 million this year, though that amount may be pro-rated in half or cut down even farther depending on what deal the MLBPA reaches with owners.

Earlier during the pandemic, Texas outfielder Shin-Soo Choo — who spent seven years in the minors — pledged $1,000 to each of the 191 players in the Rangers farm system.

Daniel Murphy of the Colorado Rockies also donated $100,000 to help minor league players affected by the pandemic.
