In a Monday court filing, Washington Football Team owner Daniel Snyder accused former team employee Mary-Ellen Blair, who was an executive assistant in the front office, of conspiring against him.
The filing, which is related to a $10 million defamation lawsuit Synder has already filed against an India-based media company, is known as a request for discovery and asks that Blair turn over documents, including confidential records from the NFL team, that may help his case against the media outlet.
In the filing, Snyder asserts that Blair left the organization on bad terms and “has since admitted to having absconded with confidential information” belonging to the football team. The filing also alleges Blair told a Washington employee who works with Snyder that they could “probably make a lot of money” by providing damaging information about Snyder.
The filing also links Blair with Dwight Schar, a minority shareholder in the team who is seeking to sell his stake, because his daughter Tracy is on the board of directors of the real estate development company that owns the building where Blair lives.
“We are aggressively pursuing Mary-Ellen Blair, a disgruntled former employee who is clearly in the pocket of another and complicit in this scheme to defame Mr. Snyder, in order to ensure that the full weight of the law comes down heavily on all those responsible for these heinous acts,” one of Snyder’s lawyers, Joe Tacopina, said in a statement to The New York Times.
When she was contacted by the paper, Blair said she was unaware of the filing.
