Whatever the Atlanta Falcons have planned for the 2022 NFL season, they’ll be doing it without Calvin Ridley. Yahoo! News reported today that the NFL has suspended Ridley for at least the 2022 season — and possibly for longer — due to his violating the league’s policy on betting.

“NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell today suspended Calvin Ridley of the Atlanta Falcons indefinitely through at least the conclusion of the 2022 season for betting on NFL games in the 2021 season,” the league said in a statement.

The league went on to address the specifics of when Ridley took such actions. “The activity took place during a five-day period in late November 2021 while Ridley was not with the team and was away from the club’s facility on the non-football illness list,” the statement continued.

Ridley took time off from the league last November; at the time, he stated that it was due to mental health issues he was reckoning with.

According to the NFL Network’s reporting on the suspension, Ridley placed parlay bets via his personal phone. Their investigation indicated that the Falcons were one of the teams on which Ridley bet.

Ridley later took to Twitter to address the suspension.

Ridley now has three days to make an appeal. Should he not appeal, or should the appeal be unsuccessful, he will have the option to apply for reinstatement on or after February 13, 2023.
