A bombshell report from the Boston Globe‘s Spotlight team details the relationship tight end Aaron Hernandez had with his quarterback while they were both playing football at Bristol Central High School in Connecticut.
The connection that Hernandez and quarterback Dennis SanSoucie enjoyed on the field reportedly extended off of it: The two engaged in a sexual relationship that they attempted to keep hidden, SanSoucie told the Boston Globe.
In addition to spending a good deal of time together smoking marijuana (both before and after games), Hernandez and SanSoucie had a “now-and-then sexual relationship.”
The relationship began in middle school and continued through high school until Hernandez went off to college and SanSoucie joined the Marines.
“Me and him were very much into trying to hide what we were doing. We didn’t want people to know,” SanSoucie told The Globe.
Hernandez, who seemed headed for superstardom with the New England Patriots, was ultimately convicted of murder and committed suicide in his jail cell in April 2017.
The piece by the Spotlight team also details a number of other findings about Hernandez, including that he wanted to be a cheerleader at one point.
“I remember he wanted to be a cheerleader. My cousins were cheerleaders and amazing,” Hernandez’s brother Jonathan said. “And I remember coming home and like my dad put an end to that really quick. And it was not OK. My dad made it clear that … he had his definition of a man.”
Though he did not elaborate, Jonathan also told the paper that his brother had been molested while he was young.
