ABC’s entertainment president Channing Dungey said that Roseanne, which features a pro-Trump character, will lean away from politics next season and focus on family storylines. Dungey made the announcement during a conference call with reporters as part of the network’s upfront presentation. After hearing the news, conservative Matt Drudge tweeted, “Corporate cannibals stripping Roseanne of her fun.”

The show was revived this year after a long hiatus, and the debut episode featured characters arguing about the 2016 election. The show’s namesake represents the conservative viewpoint. But the show has been moving away from politics as the season progressed.
“I think that one of the things that was fresh for us with ‘Roseanne’ on the air is that it is focusing (on) a family that is in a different economic status than some of the other family comedies that are on the air,” Dungey reportedly said, according to Fox News.
