Minutes after a woman posted the $100,000 bail for R. Kelly to be freed from jail while he awaits trial on sexual abuse charges, the R&B singer went to the Rock n’ Roll McDonalds in downtown Chicago
The bail – ten percent of the $1 million bond that a judge set – allowed the 52-year-old to leave his cell after pleading not guilty to 10 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Kelly ordered a quarter pounder meal with BBQ sauce on the side and sat with his legal team in the restaurant for about half an hour. Kelly paid the bill for the entire group and it was less than $50.
According to reports from The Root, the McDonald’s – which is a popular hangout spot for teenagers, used to be a place where the singer would talk to girls with his entourage and security in tow.
For Kelly to stay out of the clink, he needs to pay about $160k in back child support to his ex-wife Drea Kelly by March 6. If Kelly – who couldn’t come up with his bail money – doesn’t come up with the cash, he’ll be sent back to the county lockup.
The Kelly sources tell us he plans to make arrangements to pay the child support by next week, so he can focus on his criminal defense … and avoid jail.
This isn’t the first time the R&B singer has shown an affinity for the Golden Arches following a controversy.
In 2004, R. Kelly walked off the stage during a St. Louis concert with Jay-Z following an argument with sound technicians and went to a local McDonald’s where he served up burgers via the restaurant’s drive-thru for a number of hours.
