Turning Penelope Cruz into Donatella Versace was a hefty task for American Crime Story’s costume, hair, and makeup teams, according to a new story in Vanity Fair. For costume designers Lou Eyrich and Allison Leach, making a corset that modeled Versace’s waist was the centerpiece of the project. They were also responsible for remaking Versace’s famous Met Gala bondage dress, a feat that took endless tinkering with leather. Ana Lozano, Cruz’s makeup artist, used Plumper, something akin to a dental prosthetic, to give the star Versace’s famously plump lips. As for hair stylist Massimo Gattabrussi, he labored over nine wigs for the show’s use before he and Cruz narrowed the wigs down to the three that appear on screen.
