John & Yoko: Above Us Only Sky, a documentary coming later this fall, will dive deep into the history of Imagine and “Imagine,” the album and its indelible title track. Variety reports that director Michael Epstein has teamed with British broadcaster Channel 4 and the production company Eagle Rock to make the film, which will feature previously-unseen and unheard archival material from the estate of John Lennon.
Fans of Lennon can look forward to seeing new footage of him at work with Ono in London, and hearing an unearthed demo of “Imagine.” Both Ono and John’s son Julian Lennon took part in the movie. “I feel in the big picture the fact that John and I met was to do this song,” Ono reportedly says in one of the film’s interviews.
Channel 4 announced that the movie, which runs 90 minutes, will also cover the story of John and Yoko’s meeting.
