Leonardo DiCaprio will star in a and Martin Scorsese-directed film adapted from the nonfiction best-seller, Killers of the Flower Moon.
The crime drama is set in 1920’s Oklahoma, where the Osage Nation tribe of Native Americans discover their land sits on a wealth of oil. Soon after, the community finds themselves being slowly killed off, one by one.
The book, written by The New Yorker staff writer David Grann, is also a history of the birth of the FBI, one of its first major cases and “a chilling conspiracy… of (one of) the most monstrous crimes in American history,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“When I read David Grann’s book, I immediately started seeing it — the people, the settings, the action — and I knew that I had to make it into a movie,” Scorsese said in a statement.
The book was optioned in 2016 but no release date has been announced.
The Oscar-winning director and his favorite Oscar-winning actor are currently filming another historical crime movie based on a nonfiction book — Erik Larson’s 1893 World’s Fair serial killer telling, The Devil in the White City.
