The hunt for Ghislaine Maxwell appears to have finally come to a close. The one-time girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, who has been accused of helping the disgraced financier procure and groom underage girls for sex, has reportedly been arrested, according to News 4 New York.
Maxwell, the British socialite daughter of media baron Robert Maxwell, was reportedly arrested on Epstein-related charges, two senior law enforcement sources told the outlet. Maxwell is expected to appear in court later today. According to the New York Times, Maxwell was found in New Hampshire.
Back in 2015, Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre accused Maxwell of assisting Epstein’s abuse in a defamation suit. Following Epstein’s arrest on new federal charges of exploiting dozens of underage girls and his subsequent death last summer, renewed attention has followed Maxwell, as speculation surrounding her involvement in Epstein’s crimes has grown. As Epstein’s house manager, Janusz Banasiak, put it in a deposition, “They were like partners in a business.”
Maxwell has laid low since Epstein’s death, with various rumors about her possible location popping up in the past year, including one viral photo of her sitting at an In-N-Out Burger reading a book about CIA operatives.
Spokespeople for the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan reportedly declined News 4 New York’s request for comment on Maxwell’s arrest.
