The domestic box office for March is not looking good, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The US box office has raked in $722.5 million through the first four weekends of March, a significant decrease from last year’s $997.3 million at the same point in the month. While March 2017 saw titles like Beauty and the Beast, Logan, and The Boss Baby perform admirably, 2018’s Pacific Rim Uprising, Tomb Raider, and A Wrinkle in Time have seen disappointing results in American movie theaters. The March downturn has been ameliorated dramatically by the continuing success of Black Panther, which is reportedly responsible for 24 percent of 2018’s entire domestic box office thus far and recently became the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time in the US. Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Ready Player One is Hollywood’s final chance at scoring decent March numbers.
