The InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland’s most discerning guests request rooms on the very bottom.
That’s because the hotel is the world’s first underground facility — built ona formerly abandoned quarry. The hotel’s doors will open on Dec. 1 after nearly a decade of planning and construction.
Among the resort’s unique features are its 18 stories that plunge 300 feet into the ground. The structure surrounds a “majestic” waterfall with surrounding views of the quarry’s cliffs that can be seen from the hotel’s balconies, USA Today reported.
The bottom two floors are completely submerged underwater, offering guests a fish-eye-view of the hotel’s surrounding aquatic landscape.
