Cary Fukunaga will take the reins for the 25th installment of the storied James Bond franchise. Most famous for directing every episode of True Detective’s first season and the Netflix-released movie Beasts of No Nation, Fukunaga will direct Daniel Craig in what has been reported to be his final film as 007.
Producers from the Bond-helming company Eon made the announcement on Thursday, also revealing that the next Bond movie will be pushed back from its normal early winter slot and be released Valentine’s Day 2020. Fukunaga takes over after Danny Boyle, of Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, departed from the production over disagreements about the script and casting, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure,” stated Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of Eon in a tweet.
