One of the biggest stories of 2019 is coming to HBO in the form of a limited series which will be developed by Adam McKay.
McKay, the director of films like The Big Short, Vice and Anchorman, signed on to produce the untitled series about the downfall and death of the disgraced high-profile financier as part of a larger deal he reached with HBO.
The 51-year-old closed a five-year, first-look television deal for his company Hyperobject to develop content for HBO as well as its streaming sibling HBO Max.
One of many forthcoming projects about Epstein, McKay’s series will be based on an upcoming book about the convicted sex offender from Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown.
McKay has worked on multiple HBO series in the past, including Eastbound & Down, Funny or Die Presents and Emmy-winner Succession.
“We are delighted to continue our longtime collaboration with Adam McKay with this new deal,” Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming, said in a statement. “Adam is a uniquely talented director and producer, and we are looking forward to working with him and the team at Hyperobject on many projects to come.”
McKay also just wrapped shooting on Showtime, a 1980s-set show examining the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers.
