In recent years, Snoop Dogg’s areas of interest have broadened dramatically. Sure, he’s widely popular for his music — and has been for decades, at this point, and he’ll be part of the Super Bowl halftime show early next year. But he’s also demonstrated his Peaky Blinders fandom and has made a foray into wine. And he’s also taking part in an event at Rutgers University designed in part to make up for the university’s commencement ceremonies altered due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
Does it mean that Rutgers students are getting Snoop Dogg as a commencement speaker of sorts? Not exactly — though one assumes a Snoop Dogg commencement speech would be incredibly memorable. Instead, it’s an effort by the university to thank recent graduates for their patience.
At NJ.com, Adam Clark reported on more details about Snoop Dogg’s upcoming concert. He’s scheduled to play Rutgers’s SHI Stadium on October 23 — and apparently he’s being paid $500,000 to do so. Though the article notes that he’ll be contributing $65,000 of that back in order to cover some of the staging costs for the event.
In a statement, Snoop said, “It’s going to be a party to remember.”
The article notes that recent graduates (and their guests) can claim free tickets for the show; the same is true for current students. The university had promised something big for graduates who had their commencement ceremonies altered due to the pandemic; this certainly seems to qualify.
