Celebrity divorces can get pretty contentious, especially when there’s a dispute over assets, but this is taking things to a whole new level: according to court documents obtained by the Miami Herald, Phil Collins’s ex-wife Orianne Cevey has allegedly commandeered the musician’s $33 million Florida mansion with the help of her new husband and four armed guards.
The Herald reports that Cevey (who apparently broke up with Collins via text message this past August), her new 31-year-old husband Tom Bates and their guards have “changed the security codes for the alarms, blocked surveillance cameras and barred real estate agents from showing the house.” According to the court filing, they are “threatening, implicitly and explicitly, to prolong their unlawful occupation of the property through force.”
Collins and his lawyers have expressed concern over the potential destruction of his “valuable and personal property,” and they’re filing an injunction to “end the armed occupation” of the house.
“Mrs. Bates, as she is now known, is trying to shake down Phil Collins for money, and as his attorney and former federal prosecutor, I have zero tolerance for that type of behavior,” Jeffrey Fisher, Collins’s attorney, said in statement to the Miami Herald. “I’m going to use every legal remedy to get her out of the house.”
Collins married Cevey in 1994, and they divorced in 2006, but they reunited 10 years later. They have two children together.
