You either love Greta Van Fleet or you hate them, but people who fall in both camps when it comes to the Led Zeppelin-inspired rock band will likely get a kick out of the latest viral TikTok trend in which users poke some light-hearted fun at the group’s 2019 Saturday Night Live performance.
As Guitar magazine points out, hundreds of users have uploaded videos to the platform in which they try their hand at recreating frontman Josh Kiszka’s bizarre delivery and weird, self-impressed facial expressions from a snippet of the group’s performance of “You’re the One” on SNL. So far, the videos have amassed hundreds of thousands of views.
Some focus purely on lip-syncing to Kiszka and riffing on the original clip, while others use their own voice to do an impression of his lack of annunciation or imagine what the show’s teleprompter would have read during the performance. (“See where we’ve been” winds up sounding more like “See whelp weep bim,” for example.)
On Tuesday, the Greta Van Fleet stan account that posted the original clip to TikTok posted another video commenting on the trend and clarifying her intent, writing, “I just want to thank everyone for the support of this video. The purpose was to show their talent and to broadcast how far they have come. In no way did I want to turn it into a trend where (most) people are judging them and Josh as a person for the way this clip entails. Apart from that their sales and streams have boosted and they have gained thousands of fans, I’m ever so grateful for that! THANK YOU.”
