On Saturday, David Byrne officially launched Here Comes Everybody, his new monthly radio show on Sonos Sound System Station (available via the Sonos app). The episodes will air on the first of every month and be made available on MixCloud after the fact for all to hear.
“I make a new playlist every month!” Byrne wrote in a statement about the new show. “I try not to repeat songs, but sometimes one can’t help going back to something one loves. The playlists for this radio show are very often thematic — movie scores, current releases, South Indian surprises, Turkish pop. You may not like them all, but then come back next month and there it will be…the music you have been waiting for your whole life.”
Byrne’s debut episode featured tracks from Christine and the Queens, Serpentwithfeet, Barış Manço, Ornette Coleman, Chief Dr Sikiru Ayinde Barrister and more. The former Talking Heads frontman also used a portion of the show to pay tribute to famed Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who passed away last month at the age of 91.
Beyond Here Comes Everybody, Byrne has another big project in the works: the Spike Lee-directed film version of his acclaimed Broadway show American Utopia is slated to debut on HBO later this year.
