It’s been nearly two decades since Bob Dylan released his memoir Chronicles: Volume One, and we finally have a new collection of prose headed our way from the legendary musician. On Tuesday, Dylan announced a new book called The Philosophy of Modern Song, which will be released via Simon & Schuster on Nov. 8.

The book will consist of over 60 essays that Dylan wrote analyzing songs by other artists, and it’s apparently been in the works for quite some time. According to a press release, Dylan began writing The Philosophy of Modern Song all the way back in 2010.

“[Dylan] analyzes what he calls the trap of easy rhymes, breaks down how the addition of a single syllable can diminish a song, and even explains how bluegrass relates to heavy metal,” the press release teases. Artists whose work he tackles in those 60-plus essays include Stephen Foster, Elvis Costello, Hank Williams and Nina Simone. The book also reportedly includes almost 150 “carefully curated photos.”

“The publication of Bob Dylan’s kaleidoscopically brilliant work will be an international celebration of songs by one of the greatest artists of our time,” Jonathan Karp, president and CEO of Simon & Schuster, said in a statement about the book. “The Philosophy of Modern Song could only have been written by Bob Dylan. His voice is unique, and his work conveys his deep appreciation and understanding of songs, the people who bring those songs to life, and what songs mean to all of us.”
