In the continuing saga of literally anything being capable of becoming an NFT, it’s time to revisit a classic coming-of-age film. 1986’s Stand by Me adapted a Stephen King novella and featured a number of young actors beginning to make a name for themselves — including River Phoenix and Corey Feldman. For the role, Feldman wore a prosthetic ear to reflect the damage his character had suffered on it. And now, that same prosthetic ear is about to become an NFT.
IndieWire reports that Feldman, who recently turned 50, is working with the company Cosmic Wire on “a crazy collection of hybrid NFTs.” If Cosmic Wire’s name sound familiar, they’re the same firm behind the transformation of a demolished Banksy mural into NFTs. The first NFT from Feldman’s collection is the aforementioned ear.
“I don’t know what you’re going to do with the ear,” Feldman said when announcing the auction. And, honestly, the amount of candor on display there is refreshing — maybe if you’re looking to start a museum dedicated to Stephen King adaptations, this would be a good place to start.
The auction itself will run from October 31 to November 3, with additional auctions on the horizon. Feldman and Cosmic Wire are also selling replicas of the prosthetic ear along with an NFT for $12 each. According to IndieWire’s article, some of the proceeds will go towards the Let Me Help Foundation.
