Adam McKay has managed to assemble an almost unthinkable team of A-list talent for Don’t Look Up, his forthcoming film for Netflix. As Deadline reports, Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry, Rob Morgan and Tomer Sisley are all attached to star in the movie.
The film, which McKay will write, direct and co-produce with Kevin Messick, reportedly “follows two low-level astronomers who embark on a media tour to warn mankind of an approaching asteroid that will destroy Earth.”
Much of the cast has been attached to the project since the spring, but as Deadline notes, it was DiCaprio who was holding out, weighing his schedule and determining whether he’d be able to do both Don’t Look Up and the upcoming Martin Scorsese movie Killers of the Flower Moon.
“DiCpario had flirted with [a] handful of Netflix projects but never fully committed and remained one of the few movie stars in the industry who hadn’t starred in [a] project produced by a streamer,” the publication wrote. “With the times changing and theatrical experience in flux, the Oscar winner now finds his next two films produced by streamers, as Apple is the creative lead on Killers of the Flower Moon.“
While it’s “very likely” that Don’t Look Up will also get a theatrical release of some sort, that remains a large question mark as theaters struggle to reopen due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
