In the last five years, we’ve seen the publication of a host of memoirs by famous and powerful global figures. There are sizable advances to be had and, for many high-profile writers, significant sales as well. All of which makes this week’s news that Price Harry is working on a memoir less than surprising.
According to Page Six’s report, the memoir was in the works for the last year and recently sold to Penguin Random House. The report notes that “the first draft is almost completely written,” with a deadline set for October. His choice of ghostwriter also turned some heads, in a positive way — that would be Pulitzer Prize winner J.R. Moehringer, whose own memoir accrued no small amount of critical acclaim upon its release, and who has worked with a number of other celebrity memoirists.
“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful,” Prince Harry said in a statement.
When news broke last year that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were stepping back from the royal family, some observers noted that they would need to find a new source of income. This forthcoming memoir certainly sounds like one aspect of that.
