Watch Stephen Colbert Do a Show from His Bathtub

With strict social distancing rules in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus, every late-night talk show has suspended production and gone into reruns. But on Monday night, Late Show host Stephen Colbert was determined to press on however he could, filming a monologue from the comfort of his bathtub.

“Hey, everybody! Hi! Welcome to my bathroom,” he said to open the show. “You’re watching a very special social distancing edition of ‘The Late Show.’ Or as I now call it, ‘The Lather Show With Scrubbin’ Colbert.’ My first guest tonight, as you can see, is Mr. Bubble, followed by a musical performance by the legendary duo Head & Shoulders.”

Colbert was also careful to note in the monologue that he is, in fact, practicing social distancing. “I’m sure a lot of you are worried, but if you’re watching this from home, know that you’re doing the right thing,” he said. “I’m at home, every member of my staff is home, because we need to slow the spread of this virus. Epidemiologists call this ‘flattening the curve.’ But based on my current level of inactivity and stress baking, I definitely will not be flattening my curves.”

After the monologue, Colbert tossed to a pre-taped segment in which a producer’s mother went to the doctor to ask questions about coronavirus before re-running an old interview with Jim Carrey from February. You can watch his bathtub monologue in its entirety below.
