Over the next several months, the world’s top art collectors and buyers will be racking up tons of frequent flier miles.
That’s because this is the season that the art world is jam-packed with opportunities for the jet set to find the next Jean-Michel Basquiat or Edward Ruscha.
According to the Wall Street Journal, here are a few of the spots art-world insiders will be hitting over the next weeks and months:
Venice Biennale – As RCL reported last month, one of these destinations is the Venice Biennale, which kicked off on May 13 and runs through Black Friday (yes, Nov. 26). Set up over two locations in the Italian city, the exhibit features many of the brightest international stars—including Biennale Golden Lion winner, Anne Imhof.
Art Basel – Art collectors are flocking to Basel, Switzerland, this week for the first in a trio of the famous Basel exhibitions, which annually cause a stir in the art world. Unfortunately, you have until Sunday to get there and review the wares—some of which have already been sold.
Documenta – Based in Kassel, Germany—nearly pinpointing the center of the European country—Documenta is an outdoor art exhibition of art in an urban environment. Per the Journal, “For the first time, artistic director Adam Szymczyk split the show, opening a version earlier this spring in Athens that allowed artists to weigh in on Greece’s economic woes. That iteration closes July 16.” The rest runs through Sept. 17.
Sculpture Projects – Running through Oct. 1, the exhibition in Münster, Germany—better known by its German name, Skulptur Projekte Münster—is celebrating its 10th year. Installations are strewn all over the city, and now, according to Artnet, include video and performance art.
