T.J. Miller joked in an interview last summer that he wanted to occupy the “Lindsay Lohan train-wreck-but-not-quite” persona that he said was currently missing from Hollywood. Recently, he seemed to take yet another step toward make good on that promise when he was arrested for calling in a bomb threat while traveling abroad an Amtrak train heading to New York City from Washington, D.C. According to Page Six, Miller called 911 on March 18, saying a woman had a bomb in her bag and that he “genuinely believed that the bomb threat was true. That’s why he left his name and number.” But no explosives were found and an attendant in the first-class car told officials that Miller was intoxicated when he boarded, and had drank two more glasses of wine and two double scotch-and-sodas while on board. He reportedly called the bomb threat on the woman after she rebuffed his advances.
In 2016, Miller was arrested for allegedly assaulting an Uber driver in Los Angeles. The following year, he and his wife, artist and actress Kate Gorney, were kicked out of casino in Monte Carlo. Seven months later, after an acquaintance called him out for a transphobic joke on his website, Miller went on a hateful rant. There are also multiple stories about him showing up drunk and high to the Silicon Valley set, which Miller has denied. He left the show in May 2017, after which he began publicly attacking the show’s producers, stars and Hollywood execs in a series of interviews.
Page Six writes that a common denominator in all this behavior is substance abuse, but also writes that sources say Miller loves to “shock people” and that early in his career, outlandish behavior had worked in his favor.
