Cardi B wears many hats: wife, mother, award-winning recording artist, tormentor of middle-aged conservative men, and now, apparently, Creative Director in Residence at Playboy.
The “WAP” singer announced her new role on Twitter Thursday, revealing that she is the first ever to hold the position.
In case you missed it, things have been changing at Playboy since the iconic brand stopped publishing the original print magazine back in 2020. These days, an all-digital Playboy is a hub for an ever-expanding variety of different sex and lifestyle ventures and products, including the forthcoming CENTERFOLD, a creator-led platform that seems to be Playboy’s stab at launching its own version of OnlyFans, as well as a new luxury lifestyle brand dubbed Big Bunny.
In addition to her new role as Playboy’s first Creative Director in Residence, Cardi B is credited as a “founding member” of CENTERFOLD.
“Creators today deserve to express themselves freely and unfiltered. They deserve to feel safe in their creativity and sexuality. And they deserve to own their future. This is what CENTERFOLD is all about,” the rapper said in a press release. “For all those creators out there doing bold, revolutionary, truly culture-shifting things, come join me.”
According to Playboy, Cardi B’s role as Creative Director will involve the star providing “artistic direction across co-branded fashion and sexual wellness merchandise collections, digital editorial, experiential activations and more,” while also overseeing things at CENTERFOLD. What, exactly, these efforts will actually entail from a consumer perspective remains to be seen, but Cardi seems pretty jazzed about it.
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt connected to Playboy. It’s truly the original platform for uncensored creativity and I’m inspired by its incredible legacy of fighting for personal freedoms,” she added in a press release. “I have so many ideas already — I can’t wait!”
