Every journey, they say, begins with a single step.
In Kim Kardashian’s journey to amassing an estimated net worth of $350 million, that step was taking a vacation to Mexico with her then-boyfriend Ray J in 2003.
It was during that trip that Kardashian and her rapper beau recorded the infamous sex tape broke the internet in 2007 when it mysteriously leaked online after the pair had split.
The subject of a since-resolved lawsuit against Vivid Entertainment, the tape is how most people met the model/actress/entrepreneur/socialite. Some, of course, waited until she broke the internet a second time in 2014.

“You know, I think that’s how I was definitely introduced to the world,” a 31-year-old Kardashian said of the tape in 2012. “It was a negative way, so I felt like I really had to work 10 times harder to get people to see the real me.”
Turning 38 on Sunday, the (sometimes) brunette stunner’s hard work has really paid off, literally, as she has been able to parlay the fame from that 2003 tape into a popular reality-television franchise, a successful cosmetics line, a Kimoji app, an e-commerce children’s clothing line, and even the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood mobile game.
One of the biggest assets Kardashian has when it comes to pocketing profits, besides, ahem, the obvious, is the marketing firm she employs: herself.
With more than 205 million cross-platform followers on social media, Kardashian is able to promote her products, as well as those of others simply by wearing them (or not …).
Whatever you think of her acting talent or her involvement in White House politics, you have to hand it to Kardashian for her social media prowess, which has her earned as much as $1 million per minute at times.
In honor of Kardashian’s 38th, let’s get caught up on her social media game.
