When comedian Ken Jeong was honing his stand-up chops in New Orleans in the ‘90s, Improv club founder Budd Friedman saw his act and told him to quit his day job — working as a doctor. Jeong didn’t follow Friedman’s advice, at least immediately, and ended up treating patients for seven years as a physician at Kaiser Permanente while working the L.A. club scene at night.
But while Jeong has obviously gone on to bigger and funnier things, he’s never forgotten his medical training (or possibly the cost of obtaining it) and puts it to good use whenever he can. Apparently that includes answering random questions on Twitter, a clear example of where every young doctor who takes the Hippocratic Oath foresees themselves some day.
They do say laughter is the best medicine.
